Wound Healing is a subject that has engaged surgeons since 2000B.C.
A very famous Sumerian tablet clearly outlines the principles of wound healing as
“washing the wound, plastering the wound and covering the wound” although the wound was advised to be washed with Beer!
Be that as it may, principles are well outlined and surprisingly close to what we do today.

Thorough cleaning of wound to the point of irrigation of wound particularly in contaminated wounds is still mandatory.
Dressing materials have changed from clay impregnated with herbs and medicines in the plaster to a variety of options which will keep the wound covered, moist and prevent colonization with bacteria.

There are over 5000 dressings. But basic principles under pin them. So, what are these basic principles. How do wounds heal ?
Can they be made to heal faster ?
Can the goal of scar less healing be ever achieved?

If you wish to learn about the principles of wound healing and their application in wound management, you must attend the lecture on 12th & 13th March.
The subject is covered in two parts in two days
Part 1: on 12th March is dedicated to principles of wound healing and
Part 2: on 13th March will cover wound management.

The subject is common to all branches of surgery and requires a broader understanding.
See you all there.
